Wedge Prism

Wedge Prism Diagram

Wedge prism is an optical element with plane-inclined surfaces, usually the faces are inclined toward one another at a very small angles.  It diverts light toward its thicker portion and thus deflects beam at an Angular Deviation (b) .  The Angular Deviation is correlated with the Wedge Angle (a)

Wedge prisms can be used as isolating components.  Wedge prism may also be used to produce a small deviation which doesn't allow return to source.  Two wedge prisms can be combined to steer a beam anywhere within a circle defined by 4 times the Angular Deviation of a single wedge.  The two wedge prims must be rotate independent of one another.

Features:

  • Beam steering

Material:

Conventional material used for fabricating Wedge Prism is BK7 glass.  Other materials such as Fused Silica and CaF2 (Calcium Fluoride) are also available.  Red Optronics can fabricate Wedge Prism with custom materials if required.
